ReplyDeleteFor my effort and participation in this lesson, I would award myself with a š¢šš§šš©. Today my main focus was to observe, learn and memorise. The techniques I learned were, laces away from faces, point the ‘x’ towards your target, hold the ball over your kicking foot and release the ball to either kick it or handball it. I think today's lesson was about fun and enjoyment. Because it was our first lesson, I think having fun was the main factor for me. Having fun learning all the rules and attempting to bump the ball for the first in ages was slightly challenging but also really funny. Making mistakes and having a go with friends made us all laugh and want to try again. If we didn’t have fun on the first lesson I think everyone's first impression on the game/unit wouldn’t be so satisfying. It might make some students wonder if they even have the effort , skills and potential to play the game. So having fun was potentially the main factor of today's lesson. I trained alongside my partner Kc-Jean whom helped me learn, train and reflect on my actions.
I participated in the games and tasks given in order to reflect on my performance and view what I need to improve on.
Beautiful reflection writing jayda-mae
DeleteI like how specific and clear you write your reflections!! Go Jayda-Mae :))
DeleteWonderful reflection Jayda-Mae! I like how you mentioned what your intentions for Thursdays P.E lesson were furthering your partcipation level. Keep up the good work.
DeleteWhat a thorough explanation Jayda-Mae. Thank you for sharing your inner-most thoughts and making the reasons you participated with a high degree of effort so clear. Ka rawe!
ReplyDeleteToday I would give myself Excellence for effort and participation in this training because I was actively involved in today’s P.E lesson when we were playing afl and I have shown up prepared and organised every P.E lesson where we have played A.F. I think I need to work on marking the ball in a game scenario because in most game scenarios when I go to mark the ball I either drop it or I jump for the mark and not only do I drop it I end up going head first into the ground.
ReplyDeleteIt was challenging to mark the ball in a game situation because I didn't learn how to mark the ball properly and I hadn't time my jump properly if I had to jump when going for the ball. One factor which influenced my participation was finding it a challenge. This factor had an impact on my participation because I couldn't mark the ball properly and I felt like I could mark the ball but come the time where I tried to mark the ball I either kept on dropping the ball or timing my jump wrong and going head first into the ground. :)
Just keep trying Thomas

DeleteDid you know Thomas, marking the ball in AFL is certainly one of the most important aspects of the game. Learning to jump and catch is not easy especially when you've got a bunch of players around you all with similar intent. What separates you from them though is that is are actually trying to perform the skill and like most sport skills when it's a new experience, you will experience failures that eventually lead to success (learning). Just keep persevering with the skill development and the improvements will show.
DeleteToday on the 19/03/20 we started a new unit of AFL, today for my effort and participation i would give myself a excellence because i was activley involved in today's lesson,Skills I worked on improving were putting my hands in the right position to pass, learning the right technique on how to kick and the different types of catches. putting your hands in a basket position for a basket catch, putting your hands straight up for a high catch and jumping and reaching up to the ball for a "speky".
ReplyDeleteFor kicking we learnt to have laces away from our faces have the ball in your most dominant hand dropping your least dominant hand and kicking to a target. Something i found challenging was trying to catch the ball when playing across the river because it was slippery and it kept bouncing and slipping out of my hands. One factor which influenced my participation was really getting that drive to keep going even though I slipped up and failed a couple of times.
Love it Dez! Keep it up :)
DeleteMany discover that their drive to maintain, even increase their effort and intensity in physical activity comes from within. This 'internal motivation' stems from their own self determination and desire to improve, improve improve. So great to see you are discovering that you are influenced by that inner drive, that internal motivation Desiree as it will not only bring you benefits in PE but in all learning, indeed in your life now and into the future.
DeleteThis is a very strong interpretation Desiree! Love reading your reflections! Keep up the good work!
DeleteDid you know a "specky" is a shortened term for a spectacular catch where one person gets their knee on a defensive players back and pushes off it to get way up in the air to catch the ball! Anyway, the more experienced we get with playing, the less we have to think about how we are supposed to hold the ball, how to catch it etc. It becomes automatic and instinctive and we are able to focus on the game environment. I'm digressing.... You're going along great Dez and well done in persevering to improve your skills in AFL.

ReplyDeleteToday I would give myself Not Achieved Achieved Merit Excellence for effort and participation in this training because i learnt how to get the ball down to the other end of the field faster then just handballing it , i learnt how to kick the ball and mark myself in order to kick the ball to the next person .
ReplyDeleteSkill(s) I worked on improving were Kicking and handballing and I also learnt how to bounce every 5m. Another thing I learnt and improved on getting was the scores between the poles. My only struggle today would have been the bounce.
It was challenging to get the bounce every 5m properly because it was very unco for me and kept going all sorts of ways. But i will improve on it.
One factor which influenced my participation was: My team, we influenced each other and encouraged each other to do our best. We worked as a team and that's what influenced me more to enjoy the game even better.
The bounce is very unco for most people Kiahni even when we aren't moving that fast. Can you imagine having to do that while running at full speed and having the ball bounce back up to you perfect every time? What a mission! Something that stood out to me was the enthusiasm and enjoyment you (and your class) were showing. One of the biggest factors in whether teens actively participate in sport is how much FUN the activity is. Most of your class wouldn't have had much experience with playing AFL and I bet when Whaea Ruth and I announced AFL was our next activity, there would have been grumbles. Once we get into a proper game after improving our skills, I bet your class will want more AFL if given the option.
DeleteLovely reflection Kiahni! I like how you mentioned that your team were influencing and encouraging eachother to better everyones partcipation level making the game better.
DeleteLove it Kiahni!! You gave your 100% participation today and I like how you can notice but still grow from your mistakes.
DeleteI noted the fun you were having in both the tuakana/teina learning and in the team games Kiahni. Not only were you motivated by your team's efforts but your efforts,in turn motivates others too. Can you edit -go back and delete which grades don't apply in your first sentence?
ReplyDeleteToday I would give myself a Excellence for effort and participation in this training because I tried my hardest in class and learnt everything with 100% effort.
ReplyDeleteSkill(s) I worked on improving was hand-balling correctly with a closed fist and kicking the ball correctly with the right technique.
It was challenging to kick the ball without getting a sore foot
One factor which influenced my participation was my friends and seeing the great participation from the rest of my class
Nice and simple to read Tyissa! Love it! I like knowing that the use of your classmates particpation level influences yours.
DeleteTrying your hardest is a great place to start Tyissa. Giving 100% effort always leads to positive outcomes. The sore foot you're getting might actually be a technique thing. Are you "locking your ankle" and keeping it locked in the kicking motion? The other part of this is how you drop the ball. It really needs to be dropped straight up and down and not angled in any way. When we release the ball, sometimes our hand turns the ball slightly sideways and we don't contact the ball in the right place. Anyway, you just keep on working on improving your skills and trying your best and most importantly, enjoy the activity with your class.
DeleteToday I would give myself Excellence for effort and participation in this training because I was really engaged in the lesson, I was organised and listened very carefully to what was said. I learnt a couple of skills which I will work to improve on over the next couple of weeks.
ReplyDeleteSkill(s) I worked on improving were kicking, handballing, and a few receiving techniques. Today I did pretty good for a beginner but to become better I'm going to work on improving these techniques each p.e lesson.
It was challenging to kick in a straight direction because I'm a crooked toe but today while practicing I did a few decent kicks.
One factor which influenced my participation was my partner Poshy. She guided me each step of the way by giving me critique that helped me to improve. Together we celebrated when one of us did something spectacular, this gave me more motivation to keep going.
Jo Jo, you continue to impress me in every practical lesson! You have a real "joie de vivre" around sport and physical activity. Considering AFL is relatively new to most students in your class, we can't just accept people to all of a sudden be really good at it. As you are realizing, it takes (quality) practice and having Poshy as your training partner, I suspect you will get quality feedback from her. I think one of the biggest challenges you'll have is trying to learn to kick with your leg "straight back and straight through" if you have previously learned to kick a ball "rugby style". You'll get there though because you care about learning to perform skills better and you're willing to work at it. You can play on my AFL team anytime!!
ReplyDeletegot it
ReplyDeleteWhoever this is,go back into your profile and enter your REAL name. You were told very clearly not to use nicknames or pseudonyms. Pai kare!

ReplyDeleteSkill(s) I worked on improving were passing, catching and kicking.
ReplyDeleteIt was challenging to make my passes more accurate so they could go to the person I wanted them to go to because the ball would sometimes go off the wrong part of my hand and would hurt. Using the right technique and not throwing rugby passes was quite challenging as i'm not used to the afl way of passing the ball.
I suspect Brooke that since you have grown up in a household full of rugby players, having to learn to hand pass (instead of rugby pass) and kick straight back and through would be new experiences. Your brain might be programmed to act instinctively when put under time pressure and it reverts to rugby. Still some people really embrace new activities and the opportunity to learn new skills. In time I'm fairly confident you would be very good at this game. As we progress through the AFL unit, I bet you'll pick up the skills and strategy quite quickly. I was also nice to see you enjoying the training / game in the last lesson!
DeleteI can relate Brooke, you'll get there! Superb writing and keep up the effort of improving!
DeleteThat's understandable Brooke but I know you'll get the technique right! and will train yourself not to do rugby passes. Your a great partner as well :)
DeleteToday I would give myself Excellence for effort and participation in this training because I was motivated actively and purposely for training. It was fun to take part in this lesson because we were all just having fun and still getting to know the game.I did my best to gather as much information about the rules for the game so that I can tell my partner and she understood very well. A rule I learnt was that once you catch the ball on a full you are able to move back a few steps in a straight line and you can either kick the ball or pass it to your team mate. From where you caught the ball that's where your opponent can stand or do whatever, they are not to come any closer to you.
ReplyDeleteI was able to give a perfect kick pass over to Desiree when she was way on the other side of the field which made me quite happy because I have a big toe hahahah.
Fundamentally, playing a game of AFL requires you to run, hand pass, kick, catch and tackle and I think you would be tailor-made for this game. Do you know what stood out for me in the last observation of your class? The effort level was high but the fun and enthusiasm was infectious and that is something I consistently see coming from you in our practical lessons. With your big toe, do you have trouble finding shoes that fit you properly?
ReplyDeleteBig Toeššš...I mean I agree on the grade you've awarded yourself Poshy!š Not surprised, as you have the potential for the excellent standard in yet every physical activity you've participated in.šš½ What a very comprehensive explanation!šš½ Outstanding progress Ngawati! Keep it pushing!šŖš½š£

ReplyDeleteToday I would give myself excellence for effort and participation in this training because not only did I engage fully in the lesson but I also set goals for where I achieved all of them except for one furthering my participation level. My goals that I had set were to improve my kicking, not to panic, have fun and score a goal. I practiced adjusting my hands quickly while doing it during a drill which helped a lot for when we got into a game. It took me a while to adjust to the game, but when I did manage to get in a few good kicks I slowly started to feel the pressure fade away.
One factor which influenced my participation was having set goals for the lesson. Improve on my kicking, not to panic, have fun and enjoy myself and score a goal. The goal which I was looking forward to the most was scoring a goal. I had high hopes for myself to score a goal today as I worked hard to improve that skill prior to the game but still felt that my confidence levels were lacking in that area for AFL. I dont cope well under pressure especially for this sport, once I started setting goals I saw an improvement, from here on out I plan on setting goals.
Wehi nÄ! MÄ«haro rawa atu Kc-Jean! Amazing Kc! I noticed you adjusting your hands to catch the ball already in position to pass or kick the ball. As your partner during this unit I will encourage you to reach for your goals! No doubt that your progress at the end of this unit will result with a huge improvement!Beautifully laid out explanation Kc! Keep it pushing!
DeleteProud of you Kc! for giving it a go even when you don't do well under pressure for some people they don't improve but I can really see it from you. Keep going towards those goals being I know you'll achieve them :)
DeleteYou always respond to feedback and feed forward by trying to improve (growth mindset) K-C-Jean and now you are even setting goals for yourself. Ka mau te wehi.
DeleteFor training today I give myself an Achieved because despite engaging and participating fully in the lesson I wasn't paying proper attention to certain demonstrations of basic techniques therefore did not know how to properly perform a basic skill (Bouncing ball to self/Hand balling) without it veering into another direction or hurting myself in the process. I did learn however the basic aspects of the game, one being either bouncing the ball to yourself every 5m or hand ball it to a team mate as well as the scoring system thing with the goals. It was an enjoyable lesson overall and my partner today was very helpful and encouraging, thank you Adelia for being patient with me.
ReplyDeleteYou've been very hard on yourself. Go back to the Let's Get Active to read the indicators that help you determine which of those you demonstrated Maraea. I saw you demonstrate many from the Merit column and this from the Excellence 'With preparedness to accept challenges that are outside of their comfort zone'
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteToday I would give myself an Achieved for effort and participation in this training because I went into AFL with a fixed mindset thinking that AFL was going to be boring and I wasn’t going to like it. This caused me to be slow in learning and picking up the skills fast. Turns out I actually liked and enjoyed it.
Skill(s) I worked on improving were Hand balling it rather than passing it, Bouncing it every 5m, and kicking the ball.
It was challenging to Handball and kick the ball without it hurting, I realised that it was sore because I didn’t do it properly nor did I know how to do it.
One factor which influenced my participation was The fact that I actually very enjoyed playing Afl.
I noticed you were a little reserved at first Moana but you started to have fun and the inner drive that you have started to surface. Willingness to step out of your comfort zone is an indicator from the Excellence column and a growth mindset behaviour Moana. I suggest that you look at your Let's Get Active assessment task and you will see you demonstrated many of the indicators from the Merit column over the course of the lesson,so I didn't give you an Achieved.

ReplyDeleteToday I would give myself a Merit for effort and participation in this training because...I've played/learnt this game before and from my memory I was not very good at it, to be quite honest I actually sucked at the game I did not know how to pass the ball properly, I could not bounce the ball on the ground then catch it again, I could only just barely kick the ball however I was good at catching the ball
Skill(s) I worked on improving were...passing the ball to my other pairs in that little game we played also I kicked a few times getting better at it, catching the ball using the technique where my arms are up fingers spread apart
It was challenging to….kick the ball being my feet were literally frozen so it hurt more
One factor which influenced my participation was...hearing motivating words from my other pairs even when I knew I did a bad job on kicking or catching the ball
Yes,as Mr. Scott noted in one of his comments, the 'stand out' about this class is how well you work together, how you support each other, laugh at mistakes and encourage each other to keep trying. So,to see you are influenced by your peers to keep participating is the priority for us both.Skill improvement WILL come if you keep the effort high and continue to manaaki each other.
DeleteMonday 23/03
ReplyDeleteToday I would give myself a merit for effort and participation because I put in 100% to every task or challenge I was given and also had a lot of fun playing the game at the end of the lesson. I tried to remember everything I learnt in today's lesson and apply it to the game.
A skill I improved on today was definitely kicking the ball. My kicks aren’t perfect and don’t always go the way I want them to but now I can feel when i;m not holding it right or when my kick is a bit off and that I can notice and fix my mistakes.
Miharo rawa atu Adelia! It is great to hear that you are participating with 100% effort and that you can identify when you have made a mistake and know how to fix it. Just one thing by reading your reflection and hearing all the awesome things you did I think you deserve a Excellence!!!
DeleteBack before lockdown I would have given myself Excellence for effort and participation in this training because I was really engaged in the lesson, I was organised and listened very carefully to what was said, I learnt a couple of skills which I will work to improve on over the next couple of weeks.
One factor which influenced my participation was my partner cohen. Since cohen played in Aussie he was a perfect partner He guided me each step of the way by giving me critique that helped me to improve. Together we celebrated when one of us did something spectacular, this gave me more motivation to keep going.
