Friday 14/2/20 Reflection After today's P.E class I felt very triumphant because I exceeded my goal of 41.3sec for the 200m and almost reached my goal for shot put. My original goal for the 200m was 41.3sec and I managed to get 40sec after only my second attempt today. By receiving feedback I was encouraged to do the run again as I really wanted to reach my goal in which I did. My goal for shot put is 8.65m and I was only a meter off. I believe that if I apply more power into the throw I can exceed my goal. Overall today I would say that having had people who only motivate and encourage me really helped in having had a successful class.
I wrote a reply to this post when you first published it KC Jean but I must not have pushed the Publish button DUH! Anyway, the vocabulary you use brings excitement and 'colour' to your writing and I,for one, really enjoy reading your reflections blogs because of this 'colour'. The details you include too helps support your opening celebratory statement AND enables you to re-set goals for next training. Haere tonu KC Jean .
For the first half of the period I am going to practice holding and releasing the Javelin correctly and using the proper techniques in order to properly land the Javelin as far as I can. For the second half of the period I will work on the run up towards the board and my timing in jumping at the correct time. I will also work on my balance and landing in the proper position.
I take it you are talking Long Jump here. Do you actually know how to measure your run up to the board? If you figure it out, each time you go to jump, you never have to worry about whether you are in the correct starting position. Let me know what you think you should do here.
Personally this is the best plan that I have wrote to improve my training on Monday 18th February. Today I am going to do a warmup and stretch my arms and legs. I am going to work on the javelin and am going to try to fit in a little bit of interval training to help me with the sprints. I have watched many past olympic women do the javelin and they all have slightly different techniques. They all look different but all come down to looking the same and having the same results. They get a good run up having just enough time for them to reach their arm back and throw it with a lot of strength. It would have taken them a lot of weight training, practice and prefecting the technique to be where they are today. How I intend to train after doing some research: After doing some research I am going to practice pulling my arm back and the timing on when I release the javelin. I will also work on positioning my feet.
How I intend to train after doing some research: On Friday I want to work on the four components first being the run up, the take off, the flight and then the landing. But with the run up I want to get the consistency right so that I take off from the board on the same spot every time. Second is my speed I want to accelerate from the first point to the end point which is the board. I also want to convert the power from the running and speed into the jump. Once I'm approaching the board at speed I want to work on putting a slight sink/dip at the hips which allows me to transfer the power or speed from my run up with will help change the momentum. Chur!
Alisi This is my best reflection for Thursday 13/02/2020
Javelin- After warming up my muscles by stretching for a good 5 minutes I started to throw. 3 throws in my shoulder started to ache meaning my technique needs to be adjusted quite a bit. Such as putting my arm up higher and once I'm ready to release making sure my elbow comes first all while moving my hips, shoulders, arms. However my run up is going good, I'm running at a medium speed taking hop like steps but also remembering just as I close in onto the board I start to cross step, turning my body 90 degrees, lifting the javelin above my head and using all that energy to throw the javelin. Shot put- In all honesty I had forgotten about shot put too busy working on javelin!
I like the fact that you identified that you had some error in your technique to cause your shoulder pain Alisi. You are also considering the order that your body parts must move to eliminate that problem. Go back to the training video to understand the impact having strong and speedy hip drive has on the power you can release the javelin with.
REFLECTION: (to be completed after training) Event(s) I actually trained in: Today I learnt the techniques in discus and 100m run. Chayse taught me how to throw a discus and used all of my muscles and body parts. I learned that you have to put your index finger on the top middle part of the discus. I then learned to use all my body parts and unlock my muscles so that I release more power. In 100m I learned the approach. For this running event, I achieved a score of 14.5sec. Here are some videos. Discus technique 100m sprint
This is my best reflection that I wrote after my training on Monday 17th February. Today I trained in discus my goal for discus was to throw 9m and today not only did I accomplish my goal I accomplished it by 3 and half metres throwing the discus at 12. 50m which gives me 28 points towards my goal of 200 points. I had my chromebook next to me playing a video of discus techniques during training and I corrected myself a few times to make my throwing better. From the video I learnt how to throw the discus with my hands in the right place and how to stand and move my body in the lead up to throwing the discus.
I like the fact you are adding in data ie the distance you set as your goal and the distance you actually achieved Tyissa. I also like the fact that you are taking your 'digital coach' with you to reminds you of coaching tips when you need it. Ka mau te wehi -rangatiratanga in learning.
I motivated myself and worked alone so there was no one distracting me. I thought I improved a lot in my discus spin and will hope to get it on point the next time we do practical.
) I trained in discus today and did a good effort of participation and felt comfortable in my training today alongside tyissa and jojo. My result in training today was above what i expected, i went out with the techniques i researched and put them to use, but my result was 19.22m on my final throw for discus. I am looking forward to tomorrow's practice to try and beat my result from today . Throwing the discus then losing balance was one of my challenges today.
Wednesday 19/02/2020 What or who motivated/influenced my level of participation/effort. The tips I got from Mr Scott and Whaea Ruth about the javelin. Learning how to throw the discus more flat from a slow motion video on youtube. The people around me motivated me to try harder and enjoy it more.
I did Javelin and I improved a lot on my technique and did much better than I expected, though I was a little bit sore having not warmed up. Oop-.I'm making a mental and physical note to warm next time. Sir Scott and Whaea Ruth also gave me good advice and demonstrated techniques that I utilised in my own training.
i ran my 200m on Thursday 27 February and i ran my relays on Friday 28th February and i ran the relays with Kreedynce and Jackie and Mazarm then on Thursday i ran my 200m my time was 38:19 i need to practice my launch in the 200m and in relays i need to practice giving the baton to my team mate.
I am pleased that you are thinking about what you need to practise to improve next Cleveland and that you included details like the time you ran the 200m in. This will give you something to compare to,even a goal to beat when you next run it. Good work using capitals for names and full stops too. Next time remember the word I replaces your name (Cleveland) which starts with a capital letter so 'I' should always be written or typed as a capital.
On Friday the 6th of March, I ran the 1500m run in a time of 7 minutes and 35 seconds alongside Poshy. Poshy and I ran beside each other as each others motivation and encouragement to keep pushing till we make it. To me, I used this run to my advantage in preparation for the 3000m run and any track events on athletics day.I used this run to revise on what I need to develop on in order to maintain my progress in long distant running. For example, I need to work on controlling my breathing to steady my heart rate and running at a higher paste.
I actually trained in: 100 metre, 200 metre and 400 metre my results were 13.05 for the 100 metre which is a record for me, I got 27.62 in 200 metre which is also a new record for me and for the 400 metre I got a minute and 3 seconds which is not my best result But I will continue to train and improve that score, really looking forward to Athletics day
Make a judgment and explain the level of your participation on Athletics Day: Also explain what influence level of participation: I feel as though my level of participation was excellent, because i tried in all the events i did to my very best ability. The events i participated in was Discus, Shot put, Javelin and long jump an event im very proud of is shot put because i not only came first but almost beat the record of 10.9 but was of my 4cm. Something i would change is making sure i told the long jump Coordinators that u needed a Verified score for HPE. What influenced my level of participation was doing Everything in the best of my ability.
make a judgement and explain the level of your participation on Athletics Day: Also explain what influence level of participation: I think my level for participation was good because i tried my best at all of the events like javelin long jump and also discus. I'm glad i tried my best and I'm very proud of my javelin technique after all the practice I done. And what influenced my level of participation was doing as much as I could and trying my hardest.....
